About this block

Written Product Descriptions states four standards for shoppers who cannot see the photos: dimensions written in sentences as well as diagrams, color names that each carry a plain description, texture and weight compared to familiar objects, and nothing trapped in images. Beside the list, an annotated panel reproduces one live description block, the product photo with its alt text printed in full and three written spec rows beneath it.

The standards array drives the left list and specRows the panel. The alt text is the proof: “Field Tote in olive, shown from the front,” exactly what a screen reader would speak.

When to use

Reach for this block on the accessibility page after the keyboard and screen reader guide, or on a brand page about how product pages get written. The example panel must quote a real product, invented alt text defeats the purpose of printing it.

A natural flow around it on an Ecommerce Pro page:

Before

• Keyboard and screen reader guide

After

• Accessibility feedback card
• Product overview

What you can display

One strong use is the four standards beside the annotated example. Other versions:

• Audio tours. The same structure for a store that records spoken walkthroughs of each product.
• Materials glossary. Each fabric name paired with a written feel and care description.
• Video transcripts. The standards applied to product videos, captioned and transcribed in full.

Tip: printing the alt text on the page keeps it honest. Teams write better descriptions when customers who can see the photo will read them too.
