About this block

Duties And Taxes Step is step 2 of 3 in an international checkout, two selectable rows choosing between prepaying import charges and paying the courier at the door. The prepay row adds the exact duty and VAT to today's total so the parcel clears customs before it lands, while the arrival row charges nothing today but warns that the courier stacks its own $12.00 handling fee on top of the duty. Selecting either row reprices the totals card and the pay button, and a note under the arrival option tells the buyer to budget about $33.40 at the door.

The two options are one array, and the selected id drives the total, the import charges line, and whether the handling warning renders. The example ships from Portland to London, and the footer clarifies the $21.40 is the actual duty calculated for this order, not an estimate rounded up for margin.

When to use

Reach for this block on any cross border checkout where delivered duty paid and duty at destination are both live options. The prepay figure must come from your real landed cost calculation, since the block's credibility rests on it matching what customs would charge.

What you can display

One strong use is the prepay against pay at door choice with both totals shown. Other international configurations:

• Duty free threshold. A note that this order sits under the destination's de minimis, so no charge applies either way.
• Multi country rates. The same two rows recalculated per destination when the cart ships to several addresses.
• Courier fee comparison. Two carriers side by side, each with its own handling fee at the door.

Tip: naming the courier's handling fee separately from the duty is what stops the door charge feeling like a surprise the store hid.
