About this block

Build Vs Buy Calculator lets the bars win the argument. Two sliders, engineers on the build and months to first release, price the in house option and draw it against a flat yearly subscription as proportional bars. A verdict line states how many times the price building runs, and the assumptions sit underneath, the loaded engineer cost and the drag that never makes the estimate.

A client component on the ui Slider with plain useState, the per engineer monthly cost and the yearly buy price are the two constants at the top of the file. Set them to your own numbers and the bars, the multiple, and the verdict all recompute from the sliders.

When to use

Reach for this block on a page aimed at a technical buyer who is quietly costing a build in their head. Handing them the sliders lets them plug in their own team and watch the in house bar dwarf the subscription, which lands harder than any claim you could print, because they supplied the inputs.

A natural flow around it on a Marketing Pro page:

Before

• Feature sections showing everything they would otherwise have to build

After

• Pricing where the buy bar meets the real plan
• CTAs for the buyer who saw the multiple

What you can display

One strong use is engineer months against a yearly plan. Other comparisons:

• Migration cost. Weeks of in house rework against a done for you onboarding fee.
• Maintenance drag. Ongoing headcount to keep it running against a maintained subscription.
• Time to market. Months of build against days to launch, the delay priced as lost revenue.

Tip: keep the loaded engineer cost honest in the footnote, an inflated build number reads as a sales trick to the exact buyer you want.
