About this block

Clip Grid arranges six writing samples as cards in a three-column grid. Each card leads with the publication wordmark (A List Apart, Smashing Magazine, Nieman Lab and three more), then the headline, a one-line standfirst, and the date. The standfirst is the distinctive detail: Clarity is not a writing virtue. It is a product decision, a sentence that shows the thinking rather than describing it.

Clips are one array; a clip count (6 clips) sits flush right beside the lede. The standfirst turns each card into a preview of the argument, not just a title link.

When to use

Reach for this block as the primary clips section of a writing portfolio or as a selected-work grid on a homepage. The installer swaps the publication names, headlines, standfirsts, dates, and hrefs for their real pieces.

A natural flow around it on a Portfolio Pro page:

Before

• Byline strip

After

• Excerpt cards
• Published list

What you can display

One strong use is the six-clip selected portfolio. Other clip layouts:

• Three clips. A tighter selection for writers who want quality over quantity on the homepage.
• By beat. Cards grouped by topic column with a visible label so editors scan by specialism.
• With read time. Add a read-time badge to help the visitor pick where to start.

Tip: write the standfirst as the sharpest sentence from the piece, not a summary; it is the only copy the visitor reads before clicking.
